Box Score MURFREESBORO, Tenn. | Defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion Alabama State dropped their season opener 7-0 to Middle Tennessee at the Adams Tennis Complex Sunday afternoon.

Middle Tennessee (4-1) jumped out early on Alabama State (0-1) by winning both doubles matches. The Blue Raiders' top team of Tom Moonen and Chris Edge defeated Alabama State's team of
Ion Efrim and
Alexis Collard, 6-0; before the number three team of Alabama State's
Tomas Fernandez and
Carl-Louis Luckmann fell 6-1.

In singles play, Collard dropped his first collegiate singles match to Moonen 6-2, 6-1 to give Middle Tennessee a 3-0 overall lead in the match. The Blue Raiders clinched the match when Luckmann fell to Middle Tennessee's Nicolas Buitrago 6-1, 6-4 at number four singles.

Fernandez pushed his match to the brink of going three sets, before falling to Chris Edge of Middle Tennessee 6-1, 7-5.

Alabama State returns to action January 27 on the road in Birmingham (Ala.) against Samford.
