Alabama State falls to Mercer at home

Hornets pick up three wins in home loss

Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped their home opener to Mercer, 5-2 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
 
Alabama State (0-2) picked up the doubles point with wins at number one and three to grab an early 1-0 overall lead. The Hornets used a win by Ion Efrim and Alexis Collard at number one doubles, 6-4, over the team of Sam Philp and Olivier Stuart 6-4. They then picked up a 7-6 victory by Tomas Fernandez and Carl-Louis Luckmann over the Mercer team of Stathis Tsiranidis and Carver Arant at number three to capture the point.
 
The Hornets were able to pick another point at number one singles from Efrim as he claimed a 6-4, 3-6, 10-1 victory over Philp to secure another point for Alabama State; while Mercer was able to capture five singles matches for the victory.
 
Alabama State returns to action Saturday on the road at Samford.
