Three game home stand begins Saturday for Hornets

Alabama State looks for their second consecutive conference victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Fresh off a road win in conference play, Alabama State returns to the Dunn-Oliver Acadome for the first time in a month as they host Mississippi Valley State Saturday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.
 
Alabama State (1-13, 1-1 SWAC) enters the contest off of a road split in conference play, picking up a win on the back end of the trip over Grambling State. The Hornets defeated Grambling State 74-66 behind the play of Jacoby Ross, who led the team with 14 points off the bench. Branden Johnson recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Hornets, who outscored Grambling State 41-26.
 
Reginald Gee leads the Hornets in scoring this season, averaging 13.0 points per game on 35.1 (53-of-151) percent from the floor. He is also shooting 88.1 (52-of-59) percent from the free throw line, and is perfect this season in conference play from the charity stripe. Ross is second on the team in scoring at 11.0 points per game off the bench for the season, while dishing out 2.3 assists per game.
 
Dante Scott leads Mississippi Valley State, who has been off since New Year's Day, at 12.4 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. Jordan Evans averages 9.3 points per game for the Devils.
 
The two teams split the season series last season, each winning on their home floor, with the Hornets claiming the last win 71-66 back on February 6.
