Alabama State and Howard meet Sunday

Game starts at 1 pm in Birmingham, Ala.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's soccer team returns to action Sunday afternoon with a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match against Howard University. Kick is set for 1 pm at the Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex in Birmingham, Ala.
 
Alabama State (4-8, 4-2 SWAC) returns to the pitch following a seven-day hiatus since last Sunday's match against Texas Southern.
 
The matchup will pit the two teams picked atop the conference standings at the beginning of the season by the league's coaches and sports information directors. The Lady Hornets were predicted to finish first while Howard was picked third.
 
Birgit Rijnders leads the Lady Hornets with seven goals on the season and fifteen points. Teaggan Ilela is second is on the team in goals (three) and has added three assists.
 
The last time Alabama State and Howard met, the Lady Hornets were able to come away with a 4-1 victory on October 6 of last year.
 
Alabama State and Howard have met five times in conference play, with Howard holding a 3-2 advantage.
