The two met earlier this season with the Panthers winning 1-0

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Fourth-seeded Alabama State opens the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship Thursday in pursuit of its third consecutive title, and will face fifth-seeded Prairie View A&M at 12:30 pm.

The match is the second of four opening round matches at the Prairie View A&M Soccer Complex. The championship runs from November 1-4, with the winner earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship Tournament.

The Lady Hornets are led junior Birgit Rijnders, who has totaled nine goals, one assist and 19 points. Teaggan Illea has added four goals and four assists, for 12 points; while goalkeeper Gianna Guyot led a defense that finished sixth in the conference with a 1.72 goals against average.

Alabama State and PVAMU met earlier this season with the Panthers walking away with a 1-0 victory after scoring on a penalty kick in the 88th minute.

The winner of the match will face either top-seeded Grambling State or eighth-seeded Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Friday at 3 pm.
