HUNTSVILLE, Texas | Alabama State looks to end a four-game losing streak Tuesday night, continuing their road swing at the Johnson Coliseum against Sam Houston State.
Alabama State (2-6) has dropped their last four contests, all on the road, and look to win their first road game of the season in six tries. The Hornets, who year-in-year-out have one of the toughest road schedules, look to win their first non-conference road game since November 2018 when they defeated Cal-State Fullerton in a neutral site game at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
The Hornets and Sam Houston State will be meeting for the first time since 2014, when the Bearkats came away with a 73-49 victory in the CIT postseason tournament.
Alabama State enters the contest after a pair of days off following their 86-48 loss to Utah State Saturday night, a game in which
Tobi Ewuosho led the team in scoring with 11 points. Meanwhile,
Leon Daniels added seven points and eight rebounds for the Hornets who finished the night shooting just 20.7 (12-of-58) percent from the floor and 21.1 (4-of-19) percent from beyond the arc. The Hornets, however, did connect on 80 (20-of-25) percent of their free throw opportunities and forced 19 Utah State turnovers.
Reginald Gee, who returned to action for the first time since November 28 against Utah State, leads Alabama State in scoring at 14.3 points per game in seven games this season. He is shooting 42.3 (30-of-71) percent from the floor and 50 (14-of-28) percent from beyond the arc. Meanwhile,
Jacoby Ross is averaging 13.3 points per game for the Hornets, while shooting 37.5 (21-of-56) percent from beyond the arc. He has also connected on 94.4 percent of his free throws, including his first 13 opportunities from the charity stripe on the season.
Alabama State averages 36.0 rebounds per game, and are led by a trio of players averaging over five rebounds per game including
Branden Johnson at 6.0 per game.
AJ Farrar has grabbed 5.2 rebounds per game, while
Fausto Pichardo averages five.
