MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Two-time defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion Alabama State heads south for the NCAA First and Second Rounds, drawing 11th-seed and host Florida State in the opening round.
Alabama State (12-8) earned an automatic bid by winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament with a pair of wins, while breezing through the regular season and conference tournament undefeated against conference opponents. The Hornets have won eight of their last nine matches heading into the NCAA Tournament, with their only loss in the streak coming at the hands of Auburn on the road.
Top-seeded Florida State (27-4) earned a national seed for the first time since 2009 after winning a school record 27 matches. The Seminoles earned a program-high 10 wins in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), finishing third in the regular season conference standings. They opened the season by winning 23 of their first 24 matches, before dropping three of their last seven including in the conference tournament semifinals.
Also in the bracket are 23rd-ranked Tulane and Alabama who will play at 2 pm. The Green Wave earned the automatic bid from the American Athletic Conference (AAC), while Alabama earned an at-large big from the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
The match starts at 5:00 pm (est) in Tallahassee.
