Orlando | The Alabama State women's volleyball team dropped its final match of the VolleyKnights Invitational to FGCU, 0-3 (12-25, 9-25, 8-25).
The Lady Hornets (3-12) found it difficult to generate offense against a strong Eagles' defense that produced 10 blocks, with four blocks in set one and three occurring in the second and third frame. FGCU (7-5) outhit Alabama State .387 to -.101.
Taira Cottingham led the Lady Hornets with five kills and a block and hit .333 for the match, leading the team in points for the second time in three games (5.5). Middle Blocker
Candace Martin added to her team-leading 40 blocks with two more while
Kori Kutsch posted 13 digs and five assists.
McKenna Melville (UCF) was named the tournament's most outstanding player.
Alabama State returns to the friendly confines of Lockhart Gymnasium for its second home match of the season Tuesday, September 18th, for a contest against in-state foe Troy. First serve is at 7 pm.
