Alabama State drops match against Auburn

Gianna Guyot sets new season high with 15 saves

AUBURN, Ala. | Alabama State couldn't quite keep up with a high-powered Auburn attack as the Lady Hornets fell, 7-0, at the Auburn Soccer Complex on Sunday.

Ninth-ranked Auburn (9-0-0) jumped out to an early lead when Brie Folds scored in the first two minutes of play. Nearly 30 minutes later, a crowd of Tigers made it past a group of Lady Hornet defenders for the game's second goal. In the 42nd minute, Troutman intercepted an errant pass at the top of the penalty box and blistered a shot into the back of the net.

Cami Rogers fought off a Lady Hornet defender five minutes later to make it a 4-0 Auburn lead going into the half.

The Tigers began the second half by scoring in the 59th minute when Jessie Gerow scored on a breakaway, giving her team a five-goal cushion. Auburn took an insurmountable 6-0 lead in the 65th minute when the Tigers' Dani Solaru found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Rocio Sanders sealed the game off a penalty kick in the 70th minute, making her the sixth different goal-scorer on the night.

Alabama State (0-6-0) produced one shot in the contest in the 32nd minute when Fabienne Balvers found herself in the middle of the 18-yard box with one defender to beat. Her shot was on target but saved by goalkeeper Sarah Le Beau.

Goalkeeper Gianna Guyot set a new season high with 15 saves in 90 minutes of action for the Lady Hornets.

Alabama State will open conference action on the road against Southern, with the match beginning at 7 pm in Baton Rouge, La.
