Greeley, Colo. | Sometimes the score of a match provides more detail than any words could elicit. This one did not fit that mold. While the final 0-3 tally (27-29, 19-25, 8-25) indicated an easy win for tournament host Northern Colorado (4-5), Alabama State made the Bears earn every point.
Playing with a loose energy that permeated throughout the lineup, the Lady Hornets (3-8) gave a valiant effort in the opening frame, battling back from four set points en route to forcing four ties before eventually dropping the set 27-29. Junior
Bayle' Bennett had her best set of the tournament, putting away six kills.
The storyline continued into the second set as Alabama State forced an early 12-12 tie and hit at a.188 clip before the hosts closed the set on a 13-7 run.
Bennett finished with 21 total kills over the duration of the tournament, setter
Kori Kutsch totaled 51 assists,
Kayla Torres had 22 digs and
Candace Martin notched 10 blocks.
Alabama State returns to action Tuesday night against South Alabama in Mobile at 7 pm.
