ITTA BENA, Miss. | Alabama State looks to bounce back against Mississippi Valley State Monday night, two days after dropping their first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest against UAPB.
The game is set to tip at 7:30 pm inside the Harrison HPER Complex, and will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network with pregame beginning at 7:15 pm.
LAST TIME OUT
- Alabama State dropped an 82-71 contest to UAPB on the road Saturday night, despite 19 points from Reginald Gee and double-double from Tobi Ewuosho.
- UAPB jumped ahead of Alabama State 15-0 to start the game, before Alabama State went on an 18-6 run late in the first half to take a 34-32 lead at the break on a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Gene Davis.
- Despite a 10-0 run that spilled over into the second half to give the Hornets a nine-point lead with 15 minutes to play, UAPB stormed back to pull away for the win.
AN INSIDE LOOK AT ALABAMA STATE
- Alabama State (4-10, 2-1 SWAC) started the conference season off with back-to-back wins for the first time since the 2014-15 season. That season, the Hornets finished 19-10 overall (14-4 in the conference) and advanced to the conference championship game.
- The Hornets last trip to Mississippi Valley State resulted in a win last season, the first of three consecutive wins for Alabama State on the road.
- Gee continues to close in on 1,000 career points with his 19 points against UAPB Saturday night. The junior sits at 926 career points, sitting just 74 points short of the milestone.
- Jacoby Ross went over 500 career points before the Christmas break, and the sophomore currently sits at 540 career points.
- Alabama State has recorded seven double-doubles this season after Ewuosho's double-double against UAPB, including a pair each from Branden Johnson and AJ Farrar.
AN INSIDE LOOK AT MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE
- The Delta Devils enter the contest with a .500 record in conference play after defeating Alabama A&M at home Saturday.
- Mississippi Valley State hit a season-high 13 three-pointers in the win over the Bulldogs at the Harrison HPER Complex, winning their only conference home game of the season.
- Dante Scott leads the Delta Devils in scoring at 12.9 points per game, while Jordan Evans has added 12.0 points per game to start the season.
- Mississippi Valley State gave up 161 three-pointers through the first 15 games of the season, compared to making just 67.
A LOOK INSIDE THE SERIES
- Mississippi Valley State currently leads the all-time series 45-40, however, Alabama State has won eight of the last nine dating back to 2015.
- The Hornets have won three of the last four times they have played in Itta Bena (Miss.).
- The two teams met in the conference tournament in Houston (Texas) back in 2015, with Alabama State coming away with an 83-81 victory.
