MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home for the first time in 19 days when they hit the floor against Alcorn State Saturday night at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in a key Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest.

LAST TIME OUT
- Alabama State used a big first half and was able to pull away late in the second half, cruising to a 72-54 victory over Alabama A&M in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at Bill Harris Arena Saturday night.
- Alabama State (6-10, 4-1 SWAC) used 19 points from Reginald Gee, as the junior connected on 7-of-13 from the floor and was perfect from the free throw line (3-3). He also collected seven rebounds and dished out a pair of assists. Jacoby Ross finished with 11 points, five rebounds, a pair of assists and steals; while Tobi Ewuosho came off the bench with 10 points and five rebounds.
- The Hornets finished the night shooting 48.3 (29-of-60) percent from the floor and 19 (4-of-21) percent from beyond the arc, with a pair of those coming from Gee. The Hornets also shot 66.7 (10-of-15) percent from the free throw line, while winning the rebounding battle 38-27 and forcing 20 Alabama A&M turnovers.
AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE ALABAMA STATE HORNETS
- Alabama State enters the weekend just one game back of conference-leading Prairie View A&M (5-0), with just four games remaining until the official halfway point on the conference season.
- The Hornets' only conference loss of the season came on the road at UAPB two weeks Saturday when Alabama State lost a nine-point lead and fell to the Golden Lions, 82-71.
- Alabama State is 4-0 at home this season, including a pair of conference wins. In the four games at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, Alabama State is averaging 79 points per game in those four contests.
- The Hornets have a pair of players averaging over 13 points per game on the season, Gee (14.9 ppg) and Ross (14.1 ppg). They also have four players averaging over four rebounds per game including AJ Farrar (4.7 rpg) and Gee (4.6 rpg).
- Gee is just 39 points shy of 1,000 for his career, entering the contest with 961 career points after his 19-point performance against Alabama A&M one week ago.
- Alabama State head coach Lewis Jackson is just seven wins shy of 200, entering the weekend with 193 career victories – third most all-time at Alabama State.
- The Hornets have four players averaging double figures against Alcorn State in their careers – Ross (19.0 ppg), Gee (12.5 ppg), Pichardo and Johnson (10.0 ppg) – with Ross only playing one game against the Braves due to injury.
AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE ALCORN STATE BRAVES
- Alcorn State dropped their first four conference games of the season, before coming back with back-to-back wins over UAPB and Mississippi Valley State entering the game this weekend.
- Sophomore Troymain Crosby is the reigning SWAC Player of the Week winner. He averaged 17.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in wins over MVSU and UAPB. Crosby shot .542 (13-24) from the field on the week.
- Alcorn leads the SWAC in steals per game with 8.7. The team also ranks second in the league in both assists (12.9 apg) and scoring defense (70.0 ppg).
- Junior Maurice Howard averages a team-high 13.2 points per game. He's shooting .955 from the free throw line and .407 from beyond-the-arc. Howard ranks second in the league in minutes played (34.5 mpg), third in assists (3.7 apg) and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1).
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Alabama State leads the all-time series with Alcorn State 43-37, and the two teams have split the last eight contests.
- The Hornets' win last season at home (on ESPNU) ended a three-game losing streak to Alcorn State, while Alabama State swept the season series in 2015.

- Alabama State stays home for another contest at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, before hitting the road next weekend for their annual trip to Houston.
