@BamaStateTennis faces Auburn Friday

Match with West Alabama was postponed Thursday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to action Friday evening on the road at Auburn, with the match scheduled to begin at 5 pm at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on the Auburn campus.

Alabama State (1-3) was originally scheduled to play West Alabama at home Thursday, but the match has been postponed to February 4.

An Inside Look at the Hornets
  • Alabama State played back-to-back matches on consecutive days earlier this season when they defeated Point at home last week, before falling to Samford on the road last Friday.
  • The Hornets avenged a loss last season when they battled back with five singles victories to defeat Point at home, after dropping the doubles point losing two of three matches.
  • Ion Efrim is currently the only player undefeated in singles play, winning both of his matches at number two singles this season. He has also played a pair of matches at number one singles, but they were both unfinished due to team results at LSU.
  • Alexis Collard and Tomas Fernandez have each picked up a pair of wins in singles play this season for Alabama State, with each picking up a win at numbers three and four singles.
  • The doubles team of Chris Andre and Alejo Calvis has picked up a pair of wins this season, picking up one at number two and another at number three doubles.

An Inside Look at Auburn
  • Auburn has opened the season 7-2, including a pair of wins each over SWAC member schools Jackson State and Alabama A&M. The Tigers won a pair of matches 7-0, and another pair 4-0.
  • The Tigers have also faced Samford (twice) and Point this season, winning all three matches as a common opponent of Alabama State. The lone losses this season for Auburn came against Harvard (6-1) and Northwestern (4-2) last weekend in Tuscaloosa.
  • Diego Chavarria (4-0), Andres Fry (4-0), Filippo Mora (1-0) and Alex Rushin (3-0) remain undefeated for Auburn this season. Two other players each have one loss.
  • The Tigers are 8-1 (.889) at number one singles, 6-0 (1.000) at number three singles and 5-1 (.833) at number four singles. They have also lost just two matches each at number two, five and six singles.
  • Auburn is currently 33-8 in singles play and 17-5 in doubles play entering their matches this week.
