MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State closes out their first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) home stand against Jackson State Monday night at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, in search of their fourth consecutive home victory of the season.
Alabama State (3-9, 1-0 SWAC) looks to win back-to-back games in conference play for the first time since the 2014-15 season, a season they defeated Grambling State and Jackson State to open the year. That same season, the Hornets finished 14-4 in conference play before falling to Southern in the championship game and finished the year 19-10 overall.
Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, and can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network beginning with the pregame at 7:15 pm.
THEME NIGHT
- Alabama State plays host to the "Welcome to the Hive / Show Your Hornet Pride" night at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome – the second of nine themed nights for the 2018-19 season;
- The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics invites everyone to wear your black and gold when supporting the Hornets Monday night;

A LOOK INSIDE THE ALABAMA STATE HORNETS
- Alabama State (3-9, 1-0) looks to win back-to-back games in conference play for the first time since the 2014-15 season, a season they defeated Grambling State and Jackson State to open the year. That same season, the Hornets finished 14-4 in conference play before falling to Southern in the championship game and finished the year 19-10 overall;
- The Hornets have won their last seven home openers in conference play with their 74-53 victory over Grambling State Saturday night;
- Reginald Gee scored his 900th career point with 8:37 to play in the contest on a 15-footer, he now has 901 career points and leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game;
- Gee and AJ Farrar each recorded a double-double against Grambling State, with Gee recording his first with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, AJ Farrar recorded his second with 18 points and 12 rebounds (14 and seven in the first half);
- Ross has missed just two free throws this season, but is one free throw shy through 12 games from qualifying for the national statistics at 2.5 free throws made per game – he is currently shooting 92.9 (26-of-29) percent from the free throw line
- Only Reginald Gee and Branden Johnson have played more than two games in their career against Jackson State, with Gee playing four and Johnson playing three;
- Ross, who played just once against the Tigers last season, averages 18 points per game against Jackson State, while Gee averages 10 points per game (scoring 40 total points in four games);
- Alabama State was picked to finish fifth in the preseason rankings.
A LOOK INSIDE THE JACKSON STATE TIGERS
- Jackson State (4-10, 1-0 SWAC) enters off the contest off a 54-51 overtime victory on the road at Alabama A&M Saturday;
- Chris Howell (17 points and 14 rebounds) and Venjie Wallis (11 points and 12 rebounds) each recorded a double-double in the win;
- Howell leads Jackson State in scoring at 11.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, while Wallis averages 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game;
- Howell also leads the team with 38 assists, while Jackson State averages 61.1 points per game.
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Jackson State leads the all-time series with Alabama State 48-33, although the teams have split the last eight meetings;
- The two split last season, with each winning on their home floor that included a 62-60 victory by Alabama State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in March;
- Jackson State last swept the series in 2017 (by an average of 4.5 points), while Alabama State last swept the series in 2015 (by an average 20 points).
WHAT'S NEXT
- Alabama State returns to the road next Saturday at UAPB, the first of three consecutive road games;
- The Hornets will also face Mississippi Valley State (January 14) and Alabama A&M (January 19) in Birmingham before returning home January 26 against Alcorn State.
