MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State puts their four-match winning streak on the line this weekend when they face Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action beginning Friday night.
Alabama State and Texas Southern meet at 6 pm Friday night, while the Hornets and Prairie View A&M meet on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm. Admission is free to all games at the ASU Soccer Complex. The Hornets will be hosting Parents' Weekend in the two matches, with Senior Day set for Sunday afternoon against Prairie View A&M prior to the start of the game.
Alabama State (5-10, 4-2 SWAC) looks to keep pace with Howard and Alabama A&M, who are atop the conference, and will have to do so against the Texas duo who are in the midst of the conference race as well.
Team Leaders
Isabella Beortegui, a SWAC Offensive Player of the Week award winner from earlier this year, leads the team with six goals and 12 points on the season. She has one game-winner on the season.
Meanwhile,
Mary Martin Mooneyham was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week this week and she is second on the team with four goals and has a pair of game-winning goals from this past week.
McKenna Wiscombe and
Meaghan Fielding lead the team in assists with three each, while
Janae Brown has a pair of assists.
Hrafnhildur Hjaltalin, who was named the SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week last week, recorded eight saves in the two wins last week. She also recorded a shutout in double overtime in a win over Mississippi Valley State.
Scouting the Opponents
Texas Southern (3-8-1, 2-2-1 SWAC) enters the matchup Friday night off a 1-0 loss to Jackson State. They are led by Desiree Harte with three goals on the season.
Meanwhile, Prairie View A&M (5-7, 4-1 SWAC) enters the weekend with back-to-back wins against Southern and Jackson State. Diana Neff leads the team with five goals on the season.
