MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Prairie View A&M uses a second half goal to pull off a 2-1 victory over Alabama State in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action on Senior Day at the ASU Soccer Complex.
Prairie View A&M (7-7. 6-1 SWAC), kept pace with Howard atop the conference race, using a goal in the 36th minute off the foot of Ashley Chala for the 1-0 lead. She was able to convert the goal off a rebound from Alabama State goalkeeper
Hrafnhildur Hjaltalin after an initial save.
They were able to add to their lead in the 61st minute when Jojo Bernal scored for a 2-0, before Alabama State (5-12, 4-4 SWAC) got on the board with a penalty kick from
McKenna Lupori in the 81st minute to trim the lead to 2-1. After Prairie View A&M gave up the ball late in the contest,
Janae Brown had a chance to tie the match with just 21.5 seconds remaining, but her shot just missed the bottom right corner of the net.
Alabama State returns to action Friday night against Howard in their final home game, with kick set for 6 pm at the ASU Soccer Complex. Admission is free to all home soccer matches.
