Jackson, Miss. – Alabama State volleyball dusted off a slow start to earn a dominating 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-15) win over Grambling State in the final day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Roundup on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Hornets (11-18, 8-6 SWAC) nearly hit .300 with a .275 clip which included 37 kills and only nine errors while also locking up on defense with 53 digs and 15 team blocks.

Four Lady Hornets tallied at least seven kills with senior
Krysta Medearis leading the way with a team-high eight kills on an errorless .533 hitting percentage. Medearis added five blocks including three solos and seven digs.

Taryn King added seven kills each with King adding a match-high six blocks with a match-high four solos to her stat line. Junior
McKenzie Boland posted her third double double of the season with a match-high 30 assists and a team-high 10 digs.

Additionally, the team recorded six service aces in the match with junior
Nastazia Heholt and Boland leading the way with two apiece.

Set One (Alabama State 25, Grambling State 23)
Alabama State stuck with Grambling State early on until the Tigers 6-0 run to take a comfortable 13-6 lead. The Lady Hornets used multiple runs to trail by two at 18-16. After a couple back-and-forth points it seemed like all hope was lost for Alabama State when the Tigers took a 23-19 lead but the Lady Hornets rattled off six straight points to take the first set.

Set Two (Alabama State 25, Grambling State 13)
Alabama State continued its offensive rhythm from the end of the first set as the team started with a 4-0 run that deemed to be enough to secure the set win. The Lady Hornets led wire-to-wire with a .265 hitting percentage on 12 kills while holding Grambling State to a -.027 percentage forcing nine errors.

Set Three (Alabama State 25, Grambling State 15)
The final set started with a battle as there were five ties and three lead changes at the 5-5 mark. The Lady Hornets calmed down and went on an 8-2 run to take a 13-7 lead that it would not relinquish. Once again Alabama State held Grambling State to a negative hitting percentage at -.033 forcing eight errors.
