Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State did not allow Alcorn State to get more than 16 points in a set in a dominating 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-15) win in Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball action on Sunday night inside of Lockhart Gymnasium.

The Lady Hornets (5-16, 2-4 SWAC) controlled the momentum the entire match as they hit a blistering .344 with 42 kills while holding the Lady Braves (3-13, 1-5 SWAC) to a .080 percentage.

Krysta Medearis led the offensive with a game-high 18 kills, hitting .600 alongside four digs and three blocks. Sophomore
Taryn King followed behind with 10 kills with no errors translating to a career-high .833 hitting percentage.

Emersen Belles posted a game-high 16 digs while junior
E'laisah Young recorded a game-high five blocks. Senior
Bayle' Bennett tallied a career-high seven service aces on her birthday. Young also racked up three service aces as the team posted a season-high 14 aces.

Set One (Alabama State 25, Alcorn State 12)
The Lady Hornets began slowly but quickly found their rhythm to bust out to a 9-5 lead forcing Alcorn State to call an early timeout. Alabama State would not let up eventually increasing its lead to double digits after racking up 13 kills in the set. The Lady Braves struggled in the set, tallying only five kills with eight errors. Medearis posted eight kills on a .700 hitting percentage.

Set Two (Alabama State 25, Alcorn State 16)
Alcorn State gave Alabama State a run for its money early on as there were dour ties and two lead changes in the beginning. Tied at 12-all, the Lady Hornets went on an 8-0 to take a solid 20-12 lead that they would not relinquish. In the set, Alabama State hit a daunting .385 with 13 kills with only three errors. Six players for Alabama State recorded at least one kill in the set.

Set Three (Alabama State 25, Alcorn State 15)
Alabama State carried its momentum from the first two sets into the third as the team posted a game-best .414 hitting percentage with 16 kills and five service aces. Additionally, the Lady Hornets locked up on defense as well as they secured 15 digs. Medearis snapped once again as she hit .600 with seven kills.
