BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State picked up several wins over the weekend at the 2019 PRC Collegiate Invite, hosted by Samford.
In the Singles 'A' Draw,
Alexis Collard came through the consolation bracket to finish sixth overall after dropping his first match of the day. After falling in straight sets to open the tournament, he won his first match in the consolation bracket via a walkover before a three-set victory (after losing the first set) helped him reach the consolation finals in which he lost in straight sets.
In the same bracket,
Chris Andre finished seventh overall after dropping his first match of the tournament in three sets. He was able to come back and win three consecutive matches, with the last two being three-set wins each.
Juan Rodriguez had the best finish of the day for the Hornets, finishing third overall in Singles 'B' Draw after winning his first matches. He was able to reach the semifinals after a three-set victory in the quarterfinals, before falling in that match. In the consolation finals, Rodriguez pulled out a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Meanwhile,
Luka Markovic finished fifth in the same draw after falling in the opening round. He reeled off three consecutive victories, including a three-set victory in the finals of the bracket (4-6, 7-6, 6-4).
Alejo Calvis and
Andrej Trajkovski faced each other in the consolation bracket championship after dropping their opening round match. They each won their semifinal match in straight sets, before Calvis claimed a 6-3, 6-4 victory to finish fifth.
