MONTGOMERY, Ala. | For the third time in four games to start the 2019-20 season, Alabama State will face a nationally ranked opponent on the road when they face No. 17/20 Tennessee Wednesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The game tips at 7 pm (est) and can be seen on SEC+ and can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network beginning with pregame at 6:45 pm (est).
Alabama State (0-3) has faced a top-10 opponent in Gonzaga and another receiving votes in Houston; however, they will be facing a Tennessee (3-0) team Wednesday night that has captured 28 straight at home – the nation's longest home winning streak.
Game Notes
Alabama State has played in front of large crowds before, and in the last three years have faced an opponent with a 20-plus game home winning streak. Last season, they faced South Dakota State who at the time had the nation's longest home winning streak at 22; before facing Gonzaga, this season who had won 22 straight at home.
The contest against the Vols will be the first time Alabama State has faced a team from the SEC since opening the 2017-18 season against Mississippi State on the road.
Alabama State has one more home game left in this stretch in November on the road (VCU), before traveling down to Niceville (Fla.) for a pair of games in the Emerald Coast Classic.
Tobi Ewuosho scored a career-high 23 points against Houston in the Hornets' last game back on November 12 in his first start of the season. The mark bested his previous career-high of 18 set against Grambling State last March. He also finished the night with six rebounds and a pair of steals.
Alabama State has started two different lineups through the first three games of the season, with the only constant in the two being junior post player
Brandon Battle.
A pair of players are approaching milestones this month including Ewuosho who is 46 points shy of 500 for his career, and just 21 rebounds shy of 300. Meanwhile,
Jacoby Ross needs 47 more points to reach 800 career points, and just 247 to become the second member of the Hornets to reach 1,000 career points in as many years.
The Hornets have the second-toughest schedule in college basketball, according to the ESPN BPI rankings released this week.
