Lorman, Miss. – For the second time this season, Alabama State swept Alcorn State, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-18) in Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball action inside of Davey Whitney Complex on Sunday night.
 
The Lady Hornets (12-19, 9-6 SWAC) controlled all the offensive momentum recording 36 kills with a .321 hitting percentage while also handling business on defense holding the Lady Braves (5-21, 2-13 SWAC) to a .153 clip with 20 errors.
 
Junior E'laisah Young led the way with a dominant offensive performance as the middle dropping a match-high 11 kills on an errorless .786 hitting percentage. Additionally, Young added a match-high two service aces and two blocks.
 
Senior Bayle' Bennett added eight kills (.333) and a team-high nine digs while senior Krysta Medearis and junior Taira Cottingham (.500) posted seven kills apiece. Junior McKenzie Boland tallied a match-high 30 assists with a service ace.
 
Set One (Alabama State 25, Alcorn State 21)
Alabama State did not hit particularly well but used several runs to hold off Alcorn in the first set. The Lady Hornets recorded 13 kills with a .161 hitting percentage while holding the Lady Braves to just eight kills. Alabama State trailed early but fought back to tie the score at 7-all then used a 5-1 run to take a 12-8 lead that it would not relinquish.
 
Set Two (Alabama State 25, Alcorn State 18)
Alabama State hit an outstanding .500 with 11 kills and no errors. The defense stepped up as well recording two blocks, forcing 10 Alcorn errors to hold the Lady Braves to a .172 hitting percentage. Young went a perfect 4-for-4 and held a 1.000 (7-7) at the end of the second set.
 
Set Three (Alabama State 25, Alcorn State 18)
The Lady Hornets only trailed 1-0 in the third set before taking the lead and solidifying the sweep. Alabama State hit a blistering .357 with 12 kills and four team blocks. Alcorn State tried to hang along with 10 kills but committed six errors to give the Lady Hornets all the momentum they needed.
