@BamaStateVB Dominates Mississippi Valley State

Itta Bena, Miss. – Alabama State controlled the momentum the entire match in a dominating 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-13) win over Mississippi Valley State in Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball action on Monday night.
 
The Lady Hornets' (13-19, 10-6 SWAC) defense was too much to handle as the team held the Devilettes (3-28, 0-15 SWAC) to a .000 hitting percentage with five blocks and 49 digs to earn their second sweep in as many days.
 
Three players racked up double-digit kills led by senior Krysta Medearis with a match-high 15 on a .258 hitting percentage alongside eight digs. Senior Bayle' Bennett (.310) and junior Taira Cottingham (.562) added 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
 
Junior setter McKenzie Boland set the offense to a .324 hitting percentage (48 kills) tallying a match-high 45 assists with eight digs. Freshman Emersen Belles led the defense with a match-high 20 digs and a service ace.
 
Set One (Alabama State 25, MVSU 17)
Alabama State controlled all the momentum in the first set as the Lady Hornets recorded 18 kills alongside 21 digs and two blocks. Additionally, Alabama State held the Devilettes to only four kills with four errors for a .000 hitting percentage. Medearis recorded seven kills (.286) and Cottingham dropped four kills on a .429 hitting percentage.
 
Set Two (Alabama State 25, MVSU 16)
For the second consecutive set, the Lady Hornets defense stepped up to hold Mississippi Valley State to a .000 hitting percentage with eight errors. The offense held its own as well with 15 kills on a blistering .324 hitting percentage. Sophomore Taryn King posted five kills with an errorless .625 percentage.
 
Set Three (Alabama State 25, MVSU 13)
The defense did not slow down at all as the Lady Hornets forced five errors and only allowed five kills in the set. The offense stepped up tremendously posting a .520 hitting percentage with 15 kills and only two errors. Alabama State trailed 1-0 to start and that served as the only time the Lady Hornets trailed in the match.
