Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State could not find an offensive rhythm and dropped a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22) decision to Troy in non-conference volleyball action inside of Lockhart Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
 
The Lady Hornets (13-20) were held to a .068 hitting percentage with 20 errors while the Trojans (21-5) posted a .234 clip with 44 kills alongside seven service aces to put a halt to any of Alabama State hopes for momentum.
 
Senior Krysta Medearis paced the offense with nine kills on a .211 hitting percentage with a team-high five blocks including two solos. Defensively, freshman Emersen Belles recorded a match-high nine digs with four assists.
 
Junior McKenzie Boland tallied 19 assists with two digs and a career-high three blocks including one solo. The Lady Hornets secured more blocks than Troy holding a 9-8 advantage.
 
Set One (Alabama State 22, Troy 25)
The first set was a back-and-forth battle the entire time as there were nine ties and four lead changes. Trailing 20-18, Alabama State went on a 3-0 which included two Trojan errors to take a 21-20 lead that gave the Lady Hornets hope. Troy battled back to tie the score at 22-all and forced two Alabama State errors and secured a block to take the first set.
 
Set Two (Alabama State 18, Troy 25)
Troy controlled the entire momentum in the second set as the Trojans led wire-to-wire. Alabama State struggled offensively and defensively as the team hit .050 (six kills, five errors) and only secured five digs in the set. The Trojans hit .258 with 16 kills and two blocks.
 
Set Three (Alabama State 22, Troy 25)
The Lady Hornets stuck with Troy early on but the Trojans went on a 4-0 run to take a commanding 6-2 lead that it would not relinquish. Alabama State did not let up, as the Lady Hornets compiled a 3-0 run to trail by just one at 14-13 but the Trojans answered with their own 3-0 run to increase their lead for enough cushion to hold on for the match.
