TUCSON, Ariz. | Collegiate Baseball's Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I preseason poll presented by Big League Chew was released Monday afternoon, and Alabama State was mentioned in the poll.
The Hornets, who open the season in February, were mentioned along with Southern as others receiving votes – the only two Southwestern Athletic Conference schools to receive votes. Louisville, who finished third at the College World Series, was tabbed as the preseason top team in the country.
Alabama State faced several teams in the preseason poll released by the publication during the 2019 season. The
Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1959 college baseball season.
The Hornets faced seventh-ranked Georgia last season, along with 23rd-ranked (and state foe) South Alabama twice. They also faced Florida A&M who is receiving votes, Jacksonville State and Southern (in SWAC championship game); while having a game against Alabama rained out earlier in the season.
