MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home for the second of three consecutive games Monday night, hosting Mississippi Valley State inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
The game is set to tip off at 7:30 pm, or immediately following the women's game, and can be seen on the Hornet Sports Network. Tickets are still available at $10 general admission and $15 reserved for the contest.
Alabama State (8-13, 6-4 SWAC), finds itself in a three-way tie for third place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) after dropping their third consecutive conference contest to UAPB Saturday night. The Hornets find themselves three games back of conference-leading Prairie View A&M, and one game back of second place Texas Southern.
Alabama State will honor the First Responders of the Community attending the contest, and the games on Monday will also be Play4Kay contests to raise awareness for breast cancer and those battling the disease.
Last time out versus Mississippi Valley State
- Tobi Ewuosho hit a pull-up jumper with eight-tenths of a second remaining in overtime to cap off a miraculous rally for Alabama State, capturing an 81-79 victory over Mississippi Valley State at the Harrison HPER Complex. After trailing by as many as eight with 1:27 to play, Alabama State (5-10, 3-1 SWAC) mounted a furious comeback beginning with free throw from Reginald Gee with 1:26 to play. On the ensuing Mississippi Valley State possession, the Hornets forced a turnover before missing three shots. Ewuosho was able to get an offensive rebound and put it back, adding a free throw to trim the deficit to 71-67 with just 44 seconds to play.
- They trimmed the lead to 71-69 with just 33 seconds to play, before a steal by Leon Daniels forced a foul from Mississippi Valley State (3-14, 1-2 SWAC). He hit the two free throws to tie the game at 71-all with 23 seconds remaining to force overtime.
- The Delta Devils jumped out on top 79-76 in overtime, until Jacoby Ross drained a three-pointer with 59 seconds remaining to tie the game at 79-all setting the stage for the last-second heroics. Alabama State was able to set things up under the goal and got the ball to Ewuosho in the corner who drove to the lane, got past one defender and lofted the game-winner in the air for the Hornets.
- Ross and Gee led Alabama State with 16 points each. AJ Farrar added 15 points in the win for the Hornets.
Inside the Alabama State Hornets
- Alabama State has lost its last three conference contests, and have lost three games in a row for the first time since December 2018. The Hornets find themselves three games back in the conference race with eight games left to play.
- The Hornets dropped their first home game of the season to UAPB Saturday night after winning six straight home games to start the season.
- Ewuosho recorded his second double-double against UAPB this season, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, one of three players in double figures for the Hornets in the loss.
- Alabama State suffered their first loss with the starting lineup of Kevin Holston (point), Jacoby Ross (two), Reginald Gee (three), Ed Jones (four) and Branden Johnson (five). The team had won the previous three games with that starting lineup.
- The Hornets have two players averaging in double figures this season, led by Gee at just over 14 points per game and Ross at 13 points per contest.
Inside the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils
- The Delta Devils have two players in double figures this season, led by Dante Scott at 12.1 points per game, and Jordan Evans at 11.7.
- Scott did not play against Alabama State in the first meeting and Evans came off the bench and played sparingly.
- Mississippi Valley State (3-21, 1-9 SWAC) have lost eight straight games, which was started with the overtime loss to Alabama State earlier this season. The Delta Devils last win came at home against Alabama A&M back on January 12.

- Mississippi Valley State leads the all-time series 46-41, but Alabama State has won the last nine dating back to the 2014-15 season.
- The two teams have played overtime games in each of the last two seasons when they have played at the Harrison HPER Complex, with Alabama State winning both.
