BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State turned in numerous impressive events on Thursday at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships that has both the men and women in first place heading into tomorrow's final day of events.
 
The men are currently in first place with 68 points with Prairie View A&M (41) the next in line. The Lady Hornets have tallied 45 points and hold a 12-point margin over the Lady Panthers.
 
Arion Span (3000 meters), Jamie Brown (long jump), Marcus Cade (high jump) and Caesar Kemp (shot put) all took home gold for the Hornets.
 
The Hornets' distance medley team finished second to Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a time of 10:31.87 while the Lady Hornets distance medley team won the event behind a time of 12:35.36.
 
Noteworthy
Joshua Coffelt turned in an admirable result (fourth) in the 3000-meters with a time of 8;55.38, narrowly missing a third-place finish by .003 seconds.
 
Marcus Cade (2.10m) and Jamie Brown (2.06m) took home first and second place, respectively, in the high jump. Cade (7.15m) finished third in the long jump as the Hornets dominated the two events.
 
Chaaka Trahan picked up a third-place trophy in the pole vault with a height of 2.95m.
 
Ariayanna Val's leap of 5.58m in the long jump gave her a third-place result.
 
What's Next
Alabama State will close out the indoor season tomorrow with a championship on the line. The Lady Hornets will be seeking their 11th straight title while the men are seeking their third.
