Jacksonville State sweeps @BamaStateTennis, Hornets eye conference play

Alabama State opens conference play on the road next week

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State fell in non-conference action in a pair of matches to Jacksonville State at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center Saturday afternoon, dropping a match in both programs.

Inside the women's match
Alabama State (1-7) fell to the Gamecocks 4-3 after dropping the doubles point in the match, dropping two of three matches.

The Lady Hornets were able to come up with a win in doubles play behind the number three team of Gabriela Lackova and Lea Krajcovicova, the normal number two doubles team, over Cristina Moll Alles and Marine Alberteau 6-2.

The point was decided at number two where the team of Reka Szentes and Maria Popova fell to Harriett Hamilton and Elena Tendero of Jacksonville State, 7-5.

In singles play, Alabama State won three of the six singles matches contested; including wins at numbers one, two and six.
Szentes picked up a hard-fought 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at number one singles over Harriet Hamilton; while Krajcovicova picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number two over Alessia Locati.

Meanwhile, Worthy Goldman won at number six in a three-set match; defeating Moll Alles 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Inside the men's match
Alabama State (2-7) dropped a 6-1 decision to Jacksonville State in non-conference action, winning just one singles match on the day.

The Hornets dropped the doubles point, dropping both matches played as the number one doubles was undecided due to the point already being won.

Ion Efrim picked up the lone win for the Hornets at number one, where he defeated Ajaz Kapjla 6-2, 6-4; while Jacksonville State was able to win the other five matches in straight sets.

What's Next
Alabama State opens conference play next week on the road, with a pair of matches in Baton Rouge (La.). The Lady Hornets face Southern on February 22, before both teams will face Jackson State on February 23 in neutral site action.
