BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama State, the two-time defending conference champion, opens Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play Saturday morning on the road at the SWAC Roundup against Jackson State.
The match is set to begin at 9 am at the University Courts on the campus of Southern University for Alabama State (2-7).
Inside the Alabama State Hornets
- Alabama State enters the weekend having won the last two conference championships, and three of the last four. The Hornets have gone undefeated in each of the last two seasons in conference play – regular season and conference tournament.
- The Hornets have split their last two matches, defeating North Alabama (7-0) before falling to Jacksonville State.
- Ion Efrim enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak, and is 5-1 on the season with three of those wins coming at number one singles (3-1). He has also picked up a pair of wins at number two (2-0).
- Alexis Collard enters the weekend 5-2, with four of his wins coming at number three singles; while Tomas Fernandez is 4-4 on the year for the Hornets.
- Alabama State has picked up 19 wins in 45 matches in singles play this season.
- Meanwhile, the Hornets have picked up nine wins in doubles play – with four teams winning multiple matches. The team of Fernandez and Carl-Louis Luckmann have won three matches – all at number two doubles.
