MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road to close out Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play this weekend against UAPB Saturday morning.
The two teams look to extend their winning streak in regular season conference action. They have combined to win 50 consecutive matches dating back to 2016.
The Alabama State (7-8, 5-0) men will look to complete their conference portion of the schedule undefeated for the third consecutive season. The Hornets have won 18 consecutive regular season matches in conference play, with their last loss coming February 26, 2016 to Jackson State. The Hornets have won four consecutive matches this season, with their last loss coming on the road against UAB.
Alabama State is a combined 32-34 in singles play with three players recording six or more wins in singles play this season for the Hornets.
Ion Efrim is 8-2 in singles play, winning six matches at number one this season and has won back-to-back matches; while
Alexis Collard is 7-3 on the season and has six of those wins at number three singles.
Meanwhile,
Tomas Fernandez is 6-6 in singles play, having won four matches at number four singles and two at number three singles.
On the women's side, Alabama State (8-8, 7-0 SWAC) looks to finish off their third consecutive season in conference play undefeated. The Lady Hornets have won 32 consecutive matches in conference play during the regular season, with their last loss coming to Jackson State on March 28, 2016 (4-3).
The Lady Hornets are in the midst of a five-match winning streak, with their last loss coming back on March 2 to Samford. Alabama State has four players with six or more victories in singles play with the Lady Hornets posting a 42-36 mark as a team in singles.
Lea Krajcovicova leads Alabama State with 9-5 overall record, with five wins coming at number two and four coming at number three.
Meanwhile,
Reka Szentes (7-5) has posted six wins at number one,
Maria Popova (6-3) has recorded wins throughout the lineup this season and
Worthy Goldman (6-5) has a pair of wins each at the bottom three positions in the lineup.
The match is scheduled to start at 11 am in Pine Bluff (Ark.).
