JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | Alabama State placed several student-athletes on the medal stand, and in the top five, on the final day of the 2019 UNF Spring Break Invitational, Friday evening.
Jamie Brown picked up where he left off during the indoor season, capturing gold in the men's long jump with a final distance of 7.54 meters (24-09.00). Brown led wire-to-wire following his first jump in the competition, while his teammate
Marcus Cade finished sixth overall in the event with a jump of 6.96 meters (22-10.00).
Meanwhile, on the track
Lezoghia Member-Menah finished fourth overall in the 400-meters with time of 48.28 seconds. He finished behind Kameron Jones of Maryland for the medal stand, with Jones finishing in a time of 47.17 seconds.
David East continued his hot start to the season with a pair of fourth place finishes in the 100-meters and 200-meters Friday night. He finished fourth in the 100-meter dash 10.47 – just 0.08 seconds out of second – and fourth in the 200-meters with a time of 21.44 (21.440) seconds.
On the women's side,
Shamaria Lovett had a pair of top three finishes on the day in hurdles competition – including a top finish. Lovett captured gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.99 seconds, while her teammate
Kyana Evans finished third with a time of 1:01.17. Lovett also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 13.25 seconds – just 0.01 seconds behind Ebony Williams of Clemson for first.
Nia Jack finished second in the 100-meters with a time of 11.67 seconds – finishing 0.20 seconds behind Rebekah Smith of Clemson – while
Charminiqu Hackney finished third in the 200-meters with a time of 23.72 seconds. Although Hackney finished third overall, she was the top collegiate in the event.
Meanwhile, in relay competition, both of the 4x100-meter relay teams finished in the top three on their respective sides. On the women's side, the Lady Hornets finished third overall – second collegiately – with a time of 45.03 seconds. They finished just behind Clemson at 44.32 seconds, while on the men's side, the Hornets finished third with a time of 41.13 seconds – just 0.12 seconds out of second place.
Alabama State returns to action next weekend at the Pepsi Relays in Gainesville (Fla.) hosted by the University of Florida.
