MONTGOMERY, Ala. | With the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship Tournament just two weeks away, Alabama State heads into non-conference action this weekend on the road at Middle Tennessee State.
Alabama State (8-8, 6-0 SWAC), who finished off the regular season undefeated in conference play, will play three non-conference matches prior the conference tournament beginning with the Blue Raiders Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets are stepping out of conference play for the first time since dropping a 7-0 decision to UAB back on March 7. Alabama State has won a pair of non-conference matches this season against Point (January 25) and North Alabama (February 10), and they will close out the regular season with a pair of home non-conference matches in early April.
Ion Efrim leads Alabama State this season with a 9-2 record in singles play, including a 7-2 record at number one singles and a pair of wins at number two. He has won his last three matches, and has posted a 7-1 record in the last 10 matches for Alabama State with a pair of matches unfinished. Meanwhile,
Alexis Collard has posted a 7-3 record that includes a 6-1 record at number three singles.
Alabama State has posted a winning record in singles (38-35) and doubles (18-16) this season, that includes a 5-1 record in doubles play by the team of
Chris Andre and
Juan Rodriguez. The team of
Tomas Fernandez and
Carl-Louis Luckmann leads Alabama State in doubles play with six wins on the season.
The match is scheduled to begin at 4 pm in Murfreesboro (Tenn.).
