GAINESVILLE, Fla. | Jamie Brown and
Charminiqu Hackney led a contingent of Alabama State student-athletes at the Pepsi Florida Relays with a pair of top-10 finishes on the second day of the meet.
Brown finished sixth overall in the long jump invite competition Friday afternoon, but was the top collegiate student-athlete. The senior finished with a jump of 7.37 meters (24-02.25), which he recorded on his first jump of the day. He was able to clear seven meters on five of his six jumps, including 7.36 meters on his second jump and 7.22 meters on his fifth jump.
He finished just behind unattached athlete Rodney Ruffin in fifth place at 7.49 meters (24-07.00) and ahead of the next-closest collegiate athlete Erik Eckleben of Coastal Carolina at 7.32 meters (24-00.25).
Meanwhile, Hackney ran in the college invite 200-meters and finished sixth overall competing in the second heat of the night. She crossed the line in a time of 23.86 seconds, just 0.07 seconds behind Rebekah Smith of Clemson for a top five finish in the competition. She also ran in the 100-meters on the second day of the meet, finishing 18th overall with a time of 11.52 seconds.
Nia Jack finished 34th overall in the race with a time of 11.91 seconds.
On the men's side in the 100-meter dash,
David East was the lone runner for Alabama State and finished in a time of 10.59 seconds to finish 27th in the event. Teammate
Lezoghia Member-Menah finished in a time of 48.47 seconds in the 400-meters, competing against 71 other student-athletes as he recorded a top-50 finish.
While Brown finished as the top collegiate athlete in the invite long jump,
Marcus Cade finished seventh overall in the long jump competition later in the day with a jump of 7.22 meters (23-08.25). The freshman recorded four jumps over seven meters on the day, including his second jump which was his best jump of the day.
For the women,
Arion Span finished in a time of 2:11.25 in the 800-meter run; while
Kyana Evans finished 19th overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.01.
Christine Lavallias finished 37th overall in the 100-meter hurdles for Alabama State, crossing the line in a time of 14.25 seconds, just 0.01 seconds behind Taylor Robinson of Marshall. In the women's discus competition,
Xiquaria Reliford finished 19th overall with a distance of 42.18 meters (138-05), finishing just behind Amiynah Campbell of Albany at 42.43 meters (139-02).
The women's 4x400-meter relay team finished 15th overall with a time of 3:44.81, less than two seconds out of the top 10 on the day. Meanwhile, the men's 4x400-meter relay team finished 27th overall with a time of 3:14.27.
The meet concludes Saturday morning, with the meet carried on the SEC Network+ through the WatchESPN app.
