BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Every student-athlete dreams of competing for a national championship in college, and for Alabama State senior
Jamie Brown that dream will become a reality Friday evening at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Brown, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Most Outstanding Field Performer, will be one of 16 student-athletes competing for the long jump title at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm (cst) and can be seen on ESPN3 from the Crossplex.
The two-time SWAC Field Athlete of the Week and conference champion, recorded the seventh-best mark in the NCAA earlier this season at the Rod McCravy Memorial hosted by Kentucky when he finished with a jump of 7.85 meters (25-09.25).
The senior also claimed the long jump title at the Gene Edmonds Invitational back in January with a jump of 7.40 meters (24-03.50), before finishing second at the Samford January Invite with a jump of 7.21 meters.
Brown will compete against the likes of Rayvon Grey of LSU who has the best jump in the NCAA this season at 8.06 meters, Florida's Grant Holloway and Fabian Edoki of Middle Tennessee State.
