MONTGOMERY, Ala. | After stepping out of conference play earlier this week, the Alabama State tennis programs return to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play Saturday as they host Alabama A&M.
Alabama State hosts the Bulldogs at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center, and admission is free to all home tennis matches.
The Alabama State (3-8, 2-0 SWAC) women return to conference action after dropping a 4-3 decision to Samford earlier this week. The Lady Hornets have not lost a conference match dating back two years, and kept that streak alive with wins over Southern and Jackson State last month.
Lea Krajcovicova leads Alabama State with a 6-4 singles record, with four of her wins coming at number two singles (4-1) and two more at number three singles (2-2). Meanwhile,
Maria Popova (4-2),
Reka Szentes (4-5) and
Urska Velec (4-6) have all recorded four singles victories this season. In doubles play, the Lady Hornets are 9-15 overall as a team.
On the men's side, Alabama State (3-7, 1-0 SWAC) returns to conference action after a non-conference loss at UAB Friday afternoon. The Hornets have a pair of players with six wins each on the season in singles play –
Alexis Collard (6-2) and
Ion Efrim (6-1). Efrim is 4-1 at number one singles, while Collard is 5-1 at number three singles. The Hornets are 9-14 overall in doubles play.
The match begins at 10 am Saturday morning.
