MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to action this weekend in split squad action as the multi-athletes will head to Birmingham, while the remainder of the team will make the trip to South Carolina.
The multi-athletes for the Hornets will be in action Thursday beginning at 12 pm at the Alabama Track Challenge, hosted by Samford. The decathlon and heptathlon will continue through Friday, beginning at 10 am. The meet in Birmingham is the final opportunity to get the multi-athletes into a meet to prepare for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships set for the first week in May.
Meanwhile, the majority of the teams will head east to South Carolina for the one-day Gamecock Invitational in Columbia (S.C.) on Saturday, one of just two regular season meets remaining on the schedule for Alabama State. The meet begins at 9 am (est) with the women's hammer throw and the men's 5000-meter run, and continues throughout the day on a rolling schedule. The final event of the day scheduled is the women's 4x400-meter relay beginning at 6:20 pm (est).
Several Alabama State student-athletes look to improve on their performances in the conference, as well as in the nation as they near the final weeks of the regular season.
Jamie Brown and
Marcus Cade look to improve on their marks in the long jump as they sit atop the conference, while
Charminiqu Hackney and
Nia Jack look to lead a group of sprinters on the women's side into the weekend.
Heat sheets will be posted once they become available.
