Locker sits first in Heptathlon for @BamaStateTFXC in Birmingham

She captured two of four events on the opening day of the meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Latisha Locker captured two of the four events on the first day of the Heptathlon to take the overall lead in the event on the first day of the Alabama Track Challenge, hosted by Samford.

Locker leads the overall event with 2,812 points, leading Brittany Floyd of UAB by 10 points (2802). She is also ahead of a pair of Samford athletes – Caroline Huff and Amanda Dumar – heading into the second day.

She started the day with a fourth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.17 seconds to earn 694 total points. She moved up in the overall standings with a second place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters (5-02.25), earning 712 total points to give her 1,406 points.

Locker finished first in the shot put with a distance of 10.62 meters (34-10.25) to earn 570 points, and also finished first in the 200-meters with a time of 25.56 seconds to earn 836 points.

The meet continues tomorrow in Birmingham (Ala.), weather permitting, and the remainder of the team heads to South Carolina for the Gamecock Invitational this weekend.
