AUBURN, Ala.| Paced by a trio of student-athletes who set season-bests, Alabama State wrapped up the opening day of the War Eagle Invitational at the Hutsell-Rosen Track Friday evening.
Mariyah Archibald topped her season mark of 12:12.46 at the Tiger Track Classic two weeks ago, with a time of 12:05.93 in the 3000-meter steeplechase on the same track Friday. She finished just behind Racheal Kosgei of Middle Tennessee who crossed the line in a time of 11:57.98, however, the time by Archibald is the top time in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) this season.
Chaaka Trahan topped his previous season mark in the javelin, as he finished with a distance of 40.13 meters (131-08) to finish 10th in the meet – topping his previous season best of 39.63 meters. Meanwhile,
Kristen Thompson topped her mark in the javelin when she finished with a distance of 29.75 meters (97-07).
Meanwhile,
Arion Span just missed topping her time in the 1500-meters, crossing the line in a time of 4:39.67 in the 1500-meter INVITE Friday. She finished just behind Meghan Curtin of Quinnipiac (4:38.57), Tanner Guest of Troy (4:36.84), Grace Rogers of Illinois (4:36.94) and Nichole Buehrle Tennessee-Chattanooga of 4:34.23. She finished just 10 seconds out of first place, claimed by Mikaela Lucki of Illinois with a time of 4:29.60. He finished just off his season-best time of 4:37.71.
Bridgette Williams competed in a pair of events Friday for the Lady Hornets, finishing with a distance of 33.00 meters (108-03) in the javelin and 43.58 (143-00) in the hammer throw. She finished just behind Tedreauna Britt of Ole Miss with a distance of 44.50 meters (146-00) in the hammer throw. Meanwhile, Thompson finished with a throw of 40.55 meters (133-00) in the hammer, finishing just behind Keiara Williams of Iowa State (41.25 meters).
Meanwhile,
Floyd Green finished with a distance of 27.26 (131-08) in the men's javelin, and
Xiquaria Reliford finished with a distance of 39.16 meters (128-06) in the women's hammer to round out the competition for Alabama State on the opening day of the meet.
The meet continues on Saturday with the women's pole vault at 11:30 am, and roll through the day with the last event – the men's 4x400-meter relay – beginning at 4:25 pm.
