AUBURN, Ala. | Charminiqu Hackney led Alabama State on day two of the Tiger Track Classic with a pair of gold medal finishes in sprint competitions, pacing several top 10 finishes by Alabama State.
Hackney claimed gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.57 seconds, finishing ahead of her teammate
Nia Jack with a time of 11.96 seconds in seventh place.
Zaria Whittaker narrowly missed the top 10 on the women's side in the event, with a 12th place finish in 12.10 seconds. Meanwhile. Hackney claimed gold in the 200-meters with a time of 23.84 seconds – narrowly missing the track record of 22.47 seconds., while Jack finished eighth overall in the event at 24.61 seconds.
Ulani Toussaint paced the Lady Hornets in the 400-meters with a 10th place in 56.01 seconds, while
Vinnelle Grant finished sixth in the 800-meters in a time of 2:13.77. She finished less than a second behind Christiana Nikolaou of Western Carolina (2:13.28) for a top five finish. Meanwhile,
Hannah Mezidor finished eighth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:50.39; finishing just behind Lindsey Biggar of Samford at 4:49.77.
Kyana Evans led the hurdlers for Alabama State in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second in a time of 1:02.32; before the 4x100-meter relay team finished fifth overall in a time of 47.45 seconds.
In the field competitions,
Kristen Thompson led Alabama State with a pair of top 10 finishes on the day, including fifth in the discus with a throw of 44.90 meters. She also finished sixth in the shot put with a distance of 13.35 meters, finishing just behind Tatiana Taylor of Samford (13.37 meters). Meanwhile,
Xiquaria Reliford finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 12.61 meters for the Lady Hornets.
On the men's side,
David East finished third in the 100-meters with a time of 10.47 seconds; however, he was the second collegiate student-athlete to cross the line behind McKinely West of Southern Miss with a time of 10.33 seconds. Meanwhile,
Norris Spike finished seventh in the event with a time of 10.63 seconds.
Lezoghia Member-Menah finished ninth in the 200 meters for Alabama State with a time of 21.67 seconds, finishing just behind Jason Reese of Auburn – who crossed the time in a time of 21.57 seconds. He also finished fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 47.49 seconds, finishing just behind Anthony Brooks of Georgia Tech in a time of 47.33 seconds.
Andrew Jackson finished 10th in the 800-meters with a time of 1:54.51, finishing just behind Jag Gangemi of Georgia Tech (1:54.40) and Caleb Albrecht of Western Carolina (1:54.26). Meanwhile,
Joshua Coffelt finished second in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:00.40, finishing just behind Matt McBrien of Georgia Tech (3:58.65). The 4x100-meter relay team finished fourth in a time of 41.14 seconds to wrap up track competition for Alabama State, finishing just behind Southern Miss at 40.58 seconds.
In field competition,
Marcus Cade finished ninth in the high jump with height of 1.95 meters, while
Caesar Kemp recorded a pair of top four finishes on the day. He finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 14.97 meters, while he also finished second in the discus at 47.50 meters – finishing just behind Dakota Wright of Western Carolina (48.70 meters).
Alabama State returns to action at the Ole Miss Invitational next weekend.
