JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | Just two months removed from competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships,
Jamie Brown is headed back to nationals after qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships the first week of June in the long jump.
Brown jumped a season-best 7.74 meters (25-04.25) in the long jump to finish fourth in the competition and punch his ticket to Austin (Texas) in June. He finished behind Rayvon Gray of LSU (7.80 meters), Yann Randrianasolo of South Carolina and JuVaughn Harrison of LSU in the competition. Teammate
Marcus Cade finished 24th overall in the competition with a jump of 7.25 meters (23-09.50).
Meanwhile,
Shamaria Lovett and
Kyana Evans qualified for the next round of competition in the 400-meter hurdles after their performance in the first round of heats. Lovett finished 11th overall, finishing third in her heat, with a time of 58.58 seconds; while Evans finished 18th overall to push through to the next round with a time of 58.85 seconds.
Other student-athletes competing on the day included
Charminiqu Hackney in the 100-meters, finishing with a time of 11.85 seconds; while
Kevin Spraggins finished with a time of 10.55 seconds in the 100-meters and
Norris Spike at 10.59 seconds.
The meet continues Friday, and concludes on Saturday on the campus of North Florida.
