MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State held their year end press conference at the ASU Stadium Club Lounge to celebrate their 2018-19 accomplishments, including their sixth conference Commissioner's Cup, Monday afternoon.

"I want to thank the alumni, fans and friends of Alabama State athletics who have provided unyielding support ever since I stepped foot on campus three years ago," Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jennifer Lynne Williams said. "Without each of you, we would not be the premier sports program in the Southwestern Athletic Conference."

The department claimed 10 conference championships throughout the season, including six in the spring out of eight sports. The other two teams finished second in their respective sports during the spring season to help claim the Commissioner's Cup. While winning double-digit championships, Alabama State also received the Academic Award from the conference that signified the most student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

"Our student-athletes and their holistic development are at the forefront of everything that we do," Williams said. "The coaches and staff here at Alabama State truly believe in building champions in life. At Alabama State, we are committed to preparing our student-athletes for life after sport, which is why we encourage them to win in their respective sport and in the classroom.

"The academic award that we received from the conference speaks volumes to the scholastic emphasis that our coaches, and academic team, place on academic excellence."

During the 2018-19 season, Alabama State combined to finish with a .717 winning percentage in conference play and finished as the highest rated school from the SWAC in the Learfield IMG College Director's Cup standings. The department also had 38 student-athletes named All-Conference, three named All-Region, a four-time All-American in football, an NCAA All-American in track and field and four conference Player of the Year award winners.

Not to mention several coaches reached milestone wins during the season, the Hornets had their second SWAC Hall of Fame inductee in as many years, and a pair of student-athletes were drafted in their respective sports.

"Attending and competing at Alabama State is an honor and winning is a tradition," Williams said. "I am extremely excited about the direction we are moving in. We are committed to a culture of compliance, connecting with the community, our alumni, fans and key stakeholders. And most importantly developing champions in life."

Single game tickets went on sale for the 2019 season at ASU Stadium, Monday (July 1). The Hornets play five games at home during the 2019 campaign including visits from Tuskegee, Kennesaw State, Grambling State, Alcorn State and Prairie View A&M.
