@BamaStateWSC drops match to in-state foe Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State dropped their third consecutive match to an in-state foe Friday night, falling to Samford 5-0 in Birmingham.

Samford (3-2-2) was able to get a hat trick from freshman Taylor Yount to pull away from Alabama State (1-5) at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium after the match was delayed for weather. The Bulldogs were able to get on the board in the 15th minute on a goal from Caroline Orman, before Yount reeled off the first of her three goals in the 29th minute.

Erin Bonner added a goal for Samford in the 81st minute, before Yount finished off her hat trick in the 86th minute.

Quotable from head coach Jodie Smith
"We didn't sulk, they knew they had to come out and work. We knew we were in a tough situation with a quality team, and I am really pleased with the effort. We battled, we played really hard and it wasn't enough tonight; but it wasn't because we didn't come out to play."

"I think it was more so we didn't have key pieces and we couldn't generate enough of an attack. Samford is a quality team, they'll most likely win their conference, but their defense did a great job on our attack. We just couldn't sustain anything because we couldn't hold on to the ball long enough."
