MALIBU, Calif. | Alabama State's
Alexis Collard, the lone representative from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), fell in the opening round of the Oracle ITA Masters, before falling in the consolations Saturday.
Collard, participating in the tournament for the first time, fell to top-seeded Keegan Smith of UCLA 6-2, 6-2; as 11 of the top seeds held serve winning their opening round match. With the win, Smith advances to the Round of 16 to face 17th-seeded Lorenzo Fucile of Grand Canyon.
He was also paired with Jamie Wei of Stony Brook, falling in the opening round of mixed doubles play to third-seeded Hady Habib (Texas A&M) and Alexa Graham (North Carolina), 6-1 Thursday mirning.
Collard dropped his final match of the day in the consolation bracket to Nicaise Muamba of Liberty 6-3, 6-1.
Alabama State returns to action October 17 at the ITA Regionals on the campus of Auburn University.
