Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State fell to in-state foe UAB, 3-0 (21-25, 16-25, 23-25) in non-conference volleyball action inside of Bartow Arena on Tuesday night.

The Lady Hornets (3-1) found their rhythm late in the third set as they hit .462 but it was not enough to take a set from the Blazers (1-2) allowing them to win their first contest of the season.

Senior
Krysta Medearis continued her dominate offensive performance as she hit .429 with eight kills on the night. Fellow senior
Bayle' Bennett posted a team-high 10 kills alongside a service ace.

Freshman duo
Madison Beasley and
Emersen Belles led the team in assists and digs, respectively, with 19 assists and seven digs.

Set 1 (Alabama State 21, UAB 25)
Alabama State started off slow and could not comeback within three points in the set as UAB led wire-to-wire and held the Lady Hornets to a .094 hitting percentage. Additionally, the Blazer defense forced the Lady Hornets to commit eight errors in the set.

Set 2 (Alabama State 16, UAB 25)
The Blazers controlled the pace of the set the entire time as they hit .327 while limiting Alabama State to a .094 percentage. In the set, UAB rattled off 13 kills with only three errors to hold off and stop any momentum the Lady Hornets were trying to gain.

Set 3 (Alabama State 23, UAB 25)
Unlike the first two sets, Alabama State stayed right with the Blazers not allowing them to gain a lead of more than four points throughout. The Lady Hornets hit .462 in the set to stick with UAB including tying the score twice near the end of the set (22-22, 23-23). UAB snuck away with the set three victory with their 17th kill of the set.

Alabama State will travel to Chicago, Ill., to play in the Windy City Collegiate Volleyball Invitational hosted by Chicago State this weekend. The Lady Hornets first match of the invitational is on Friday at 2 p.m. against Western Carolina.
