Chicago, Ill. – Alabama State could not slow down a hot Western Carolina and dropped a 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 17-25) decision in non-conference volleyball action in the Windy City Collegiate Volleyball Invitational hosted by Chicago State on Friday evening.

The Lady Hornets (3-2) struggled offensively, hitting .100 for the match while the Catamounts (2-3) hit a blistering .376 to complete the sweep in their second match of the day.

Senior
Krysta Medearis finished with a team-high eight kills with two digs and a pair of blocks. Junior
E'laisah Young followed behind with seven kills and two blocks. Senior
Bayle' Bennett posted 10 digs and freshman
Madison Beasley led the team with 16 assists.

Set One (Alabama State 16, Western Carolina 25)
The Lady Hornets struggled to find any offensive rhythm as the team committed four errors with only six kills. The Catamounts controlled the momentum with 18 kills posting a .485 hitting percentage. Junior
Taira Cottingham tallied three of the six kills with Young racking up two kills.

Set Two (Alabama State 17, Western Carolina 25)
Alabama State slowed down Western Carolina temporarily by only allowing them to post 13 kills in the set but the Lady Hornets still had a rough offensive time hitting a game-low .030. Medearis recorded a set-high four kills with a block assist.

Set Three (Alabama State 17, Western Carolina 25)
In the final set, the Lady Hornets fought hard but could not slow down Western Carolina and fell in straight sets. Alabama State recorded 13 kills in the set, just two less than the Catamounts but WCU hit .424 in the set to solidify the win. Young hit .500 in the set with four kills.
