WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. | Alabama State returns to action in the new year with their first meet of 2020, the Gene Edmonds Memorial Invite, beginning Friday on the campus of Purdue.
The event will run through Saturday and will be hosted at the Lambert Fieldhouse beginning at 2:30 pm (est) Friday afternoon and running through 8:30 pm (est). The teams will return to competition Saturday morning beginning at 9:30 am (est).
Alabama State will be competing against the likes of Purdue, Ball State, Butler, Calumet College of St. Joseph, IUPUI, Austin Peay, the University of the Bahamas, Lindenwood, Louisville, Maryville, Northwestern, Southeast Missouri State and UW-Milwaukee.
In last year's meet,
Nia Jack finished tied for first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.59 seconds, while she also finished sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 25.68 seconds.
Kyana Evans finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.38 seconds, as she was one of four runners in the top 10 of the event from Alabama State.
Vinelle Grant finished fifth in the 600-meters, while
Kristen Thompson finished just outside of the top five in the shot put with a distance of 12.81 meters.
Meanwhile, on the men's side,
Jamie Brown finished first in the long jump with a distance of 7.40 meters, while
Marcus Cade (14.38 meters) and Brown (13.69 meters) each finished in the top three of the triple jump with Cade winning the event.
Norris Spike finished fourth in the 60-meter dash, while
Caesar Kemp finished second overall in the shot put.
