MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Three-time Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion Alabama State opens defense of its championship this weekend at the SWAC Pod I hosted by Jackson State.
After a week of rain in Jackson, play will get underway Friday afternoon for the Alabama State women who enter the match following a loss to Mississippi State at home on Sunday. Alabama State (1-3) will face Southern in the opening match of the tournament, before taking on Jackson State Saturday afternoon at 1 pm.
The Lady Hornets defeated Southern 4-0 last season in Baton Rouge (La.), while they recorded a pair of victories over Jackson State in Baton Rouge (4-0) and in the opening round of the conference tournament (4-3).
Meanwhile, on the men's side, Alabama State (1-3) will take on Jackson State Saturday afternoon at 1 pm after not playing for nearly two weeks. They last match came back on February 9 in a loss to Columbus State.
The Hornets and Jackson State faced each other just once last season, with the Hornets claiming a 4-2 victory in Baton Rouge (La.).
