TROY, Ala. | Alabama State fell behind early and could not recover, falling to Troy 5-0 at Riddle-Pace Field Tuesday night in non-conference action.

Jeremy Rivera (2-1) suffered the loss in his first start of the season, logging 5.0 innings and allowing three runs off six hits. He also struck out six, before exiting after 96 total pitches. He was lifted for Payton Harris, who made his collegiate debut for Alabama State, logging 3.0 innings. He finished the night giving up a pair of runs on three hits, with three strikeouts.

Jabronski Williams led Alabama State (6-2) at the plate, finishing the night 2-for-4 including a double playing in his hometown. Trenton Jamison and Hunter May each collected a hit each, before Kenny Allred picked up a hit in a pinch hitting role in the eighth.

Troy (8-1) struck first in the bottom of the first inning on a leadoff home run from Rigsby Mosley on a 2-2 pitch, as he drove the ball over the right field wall off Rivera. However, the sophomore was able to get out of the inning as he retired three of the next four hitters to end the threat with the Trojans leading 1-0. Alabama State came right back in the second inning, loading the bases with three walks but were unable to push a run across.

The Trojans were able to push across another run in the second when Mosley singled through the left side to score Jesse Hall from second for the 2-0 lead. The Hornets against threatened, this time in the third, getting a runner in scoring position following the first hit of the game for Alabama State off the bat of Trenton Jamison.

Alabama State was able to get a runner into scoring position four consecutive innings beginning with the second inning but were unable to push a run across. The streak ended in the sixth when Trojans' reliever Ryan Fultz came on to shut down the threat. The Trojans added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after they stopped the streak, before adding another in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin.

Alabama State returns to action Wednesday night at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex, facing in-state foe UAB. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm.
