@BamaStateWBB Knocks Off Prairie View on the Road

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Alabama State kept the momentum rolling with a 61-52 Southwestern Athletic Conference victory over Prairie View A&M Saturday afternoon at the William J. Nicks Building.

The Lady Hornets (9-17, 6-9 SWAC) led for most of the ballgame after starting hot with a 17-10 first quarter and following with a 16-11 second to take a 33-21 advantage into the break. Jayla Crawford came off the bench and scored eight points in that first half and finished with 14 to lead the Hornets offensively.

Prairie View (11-16, 8-7) made its run in the second half, however, outscoring Alabama State 20-12 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to just five headed into the final frame. Ke'Asia Williams hit a layup with 2:49 remaining to cut it to just three to put the pressure on the Hornets. Williams finished the game with a double-double – 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Williams layup would be the last shot the Lady Panthers would make for the remainder of the game, as the Lady Hornet defense forced a couple of turnovers and grabbed a few key defensive boards to seal the deal.

Ayana Emmanuel joined Crawford in double figures after scoring 11 points of her own – including a made three. Aniyah Smith hauled in seven rebounds, Courtney Lee dished out four assists and Armani Smith stole the ball three times to lead the team in other statistical categories.
