MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State had their seven-game winning streak snapped by Valparaiso in non-conference action, falling 8-3 at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex Tuesday night.
Valparaiso (2-13) was able to get a run in the first inning, before adding another two in the third to take a 3-0 before the Hornets were able to get on the board with a
Santiago Garcia RBI single that scored
Ian Matos and trimmed the deficit to 3-1.
The lead stayed that way until Valparaiso added another in the fifth to push the lead to 4-1 before Alabama State (13-4) added their final two runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Garcia connected on a two-run home run that scored
Jabronski Williams, before Valparaiso was able to score four more down the stretch to pull away.
Alabama State was held to six hits on the night with Garcia and
Trenton Jamison each collecting a pair of hits in the loss.
Jeremy Rivera (3-2) suffered the loss for the Hornets, working 5.2 innings and allowing six runs off of seven hits while recording 11 strikeouts.
Payton Harris came out of the bullpen to work 2.0 innings and allowed two runs (no earned runs) off of three hits, while
Ricardo Rivera worked the final 1.1 scoreless.
The two teams will play the final game of the midweek series Wednesday night at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex with first pitch scheduled for 6 pm.
