MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State head men's basketball coach
Mo Williams announced the fifth signee for the upcoming season Friday with the addition of
Kenny Strawbridge to the program.
"Kenny is a versatile wing with great size," Williams said. "He has the ability to score in multiple ways and plays hard on both sides of the ball. He comes from a great family with athletic pedigree and will bring not only experience but leadership to our basketball team. We are excited to welcome Kenny to Hornet nation."
Strawbridge comes to Alabama State after one year at Western Nebraska, where he played and started in 31 games as a redshirt freshman last season. The junior college transfer averaged 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season while dishing out 1.5 assists. He finished the season shooting 52.0 (182-of-350) percent from the floor and 32.6 (43-of-132) percent from beyond the arc. He also shot 57.0 (57-of-100) percent from the free throw line, contributing to his 464 total points in just one season of play at Western Nebraska.
He scored in double figures in 27 of the 31 games last season, including scoring 20-plus points five times. Strawbridge scored a career-high 25 points against Trinidad State (2/18/20), before matching that in the final game of the season against Northeastern Junior College (3/6/20). He had a string of 20 consecutive games in double figures last season, missing a game against Casper (2/3/20) during the process.
Strawbridge also grabbed seven or more rebounds 12 times last season, including grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds two different times – including recording a double-double against Rexburg (11/23/19). He also dished out a career-high eight assists against Otero (1/31/20).
He originally signed with UMKC out of Rockford Lutheran (Ill.) High School, not seeing any action before redshirting and transferring to Western Nebraska. He was named AP Illinois Class 3A All-State and All-State for Classes 3A-4-A by the Illinois Basketball Association after averaging 26.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
